This chocolate peanut butter smoothie is high in protein and extra creamy, thanks to the chickpeas. It’s more satiating than your average smoothie, which will help keep you fuller for longer.
This smoothie is super easy to make, all you need is 5 ingredients and a blender.
Why chickpeas?
I first added chickpeas to my smoothies after stumbling across Minimalist Baker’s recipe. It sounds weird, but it actually makes a lot of sense! Chickpeas don’t have a distinct flavour of their own, so they are really versatile. They can also get very creamy when blended, like hummus.
Besides the peanut butter, the addition of chickpeas helps boost the amount of protein in this smoothie. You don’t need any protein powder here.
It also makes the smoothie extra creamy and thick!
5 Ingredient Chickpea Chocolate Peanut Butter Chickpea Smoothie:
- frozen bananas form the base of this smoothie, and is a natural source of sweetness. The riper the bananas are when you freeze them, the sweeter they’ll be.
- chickpeas. I use frozen chickpeas because I like my smoothie really cold, but you can use room temperature canned chickpeas too.
- peanut butter
- cocoa powder, for that chocolatey flavour
- plant milk of your choice. I used soy milk here.
- and optionally, sugar to sweeten
Tips to make a thick and creamy smoothie:
- Use frozen chickpeas! They help keep the smoothie cold and thick.
- After blending the smoothie, freeze it for 10 minutes and it’ll thicken even more.
I love this smoothie because it’s naturally high in protein, chocolate peanut butter flavoured (of course, haha) and it doesn’t taste like chickpeas at all.
