Vegan Buttermilk Waffles, with crisp edges and a fluffy interior. Quick and easy enough for weekday breakfast, but also ideal for Sunday brunch.
I’ve been making waffles for breakfast everyday ever since my friend got me a waffle maker for my birthday, and I believe I’ve mastered how to make a classic vegan buttermilk waffle.
Here’s what you’ll need to make these Vegan Buttermilk Waffles
- plant milk of your choice. I used soy milk
- vinegar, or an acidic element like lemon juice
- all-purpose flour
- baking powder
- sugar of your choice
- a pinch of salt
and voila! Waffles for breakfast π
These waffles are crisp on the edges and chewy in the middle. They’re not too sweet on their own as well, so you can go crazy with your favourite toppings.
Waffle topping ideas:
- fruits such as banana, berries, or mango for a tropical twist. Caramelised apples sound amazing too.
- peanut butter, or any nut butter of your choice
- jam, like marmalade or blueberry preserves
- syrup, duh! I used coconut nectar here, but you can use any syrup you like.
- chocolate chips, or shaved chocolate for a more elegant look
- dessicated coconut or cacao nibs for a little extra something

Instructions

- Pre-heat your waffle maker.
- In a small bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. Add salt and sugar, whisking to combine. Pour in the buttermilk and fold in with a spatula, being careful not to overmix. The batter should be thick and pourable.

- Serve immediately with your favourite toppings.
Thank you for this vegan waffle recipe! I really love how the waffles turn out, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. First day I had it with vegan butter and maple syrup, saved the leftover batter and had it with fruit and peanut butter the next day. It is now my go-to waffle recipe!!
