Easy 3 Ingredient Vegan “Yogurt”

easy 3 ingredient vegan yogurt

This easy vegan “yogurt” is made without a starter, but it tastes just like the regular yogurt: Smooth, creamy and tangy. It’s made with only 3 ingredients, ready in 5 minutes and customisable to your liking.

One of the foods I used to eat very often pre-vegan days is yogurt. I’ve tried some store-bought vegan yogurt and they tasted pretty good, but they’re on the pricier side.

I eat yogurt more for the taste rather than the health benefits (oops) so I didn’t want to dabble into any starters. Hence, this easy 3 ingredient vegan yogurt!

The base of this easy 3 ingredient vegan “yogurt”

  • frozen banana. Similar to making a smoothie bowl!
  • Japanese pressed tofu. Japanese pressed tofu is firmer than soft tofu, but not as firm as traditional firm tofu. Make sure you always use fresh tofu, which has a milder flavour so you don’t taste it at all. This is what makes the “yogurt” creamy and smooth.
  • lemon juice, is what makes the two ingredients above taste like yogurt!

Modifications

Types of tofu to use

I like using Japanese pressed tofu, but you can also use soft/silken tofu or even firm tofu! Soft tofu will give you a more watery, regular yogurt-like consistency whereas using firm tofu will give you a thick Greek yogurt consistency.

As always, make sure you use fresh tofu!

Types of fruit

Frozen bananas have the most neutral flavour in my opinion, kind of like plain yogurt. I’ve seen people make vegan yogurt with frozen peaches and berries as well. which are great ways to sweeten it up.

You can also add some liquid sweetener to make the yogurt sweet. Personally, I like my yogurt on the sour side.

You can enjoy it like a yogurt bowl with your favourite toppings, or use the yogurt itself to top off your pancakes, muffins, whatever it may be!

Prep Time 5 mins
Course Breakfast, Condiment, Dessert
Servings 1 people

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 100 g Japanese pressed tofu*
  • 1-2 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Blend all the ingredients together until smooth. Depending on how you like your yogurt, you can add more lemon juice, or some sugar to sweeten.
  • Use as a garnish for foods like pancakes, or eat it like a yogurt bowl with your favourite toppings.

Notes

This “yogurt” is best eaten on the day made. Keep it in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, depending on the freshness of your tofu. The yogurt may also appear darker in colour, but it is still ok to eat. If it smells very sour and tastes funny, discard it.
*Substitute this for soft/silken tofu for a thinner yogurt or firm tofu for a Greek yogurt-like consistency.
