eatwkriss
Chapati is an easy and healthy, whole wheat Indian flatbread to make at home! All you need is 3 ingredients and less than 15 minutes. It pairs wonderfully with curry, and you can even enjoy it as a wrap.
Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 4 mins
Course Main Course, Side Dish
Cuisine Indian, Malaysian
Servings 2 people (2 pieces each)

Ingredients

  • cup (80g) atta flour sifted
  • tsp salt
  • ½ tbsp (5g) coconut oil optional
  • cup (80g) water boiling
  • all-purpose flour for dusting

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine atta flour, salt and (optional) coconut oil. Pour in boiling water and mix with a spatula.
  • Pour the contents out on to a floured working surface and knead until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into 4 round balls (40g each).
  • With a small rolling pin, roll out the dough into 6 inch rounds. Dust with flour whenever it starts to stick.
  • Heat a pan to medium heat. Once it's hot, cook the chapati for 1 minute, or until lightly browned. Flip and repeat on the other side.
  • Enjoy together with your favourite curries, dip in sauces or use it like a wrap.

Notes

Chapati dough can be kept in the fridge for a few days. Let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before rolling it out and cooking. Alternatively, you can keep cooked chapati in the fridge/freezer and reheat them whenever needed.
